1. What is Kiva?

   Kiva's mission is to connect people through lending for the sake of alleviating poverty. Kiva is the world's first person-to-person micro-lending website, empowering individuals to lend to unique entrepreneurs around the globe. Read more about Kiva on the Kiva website.

    

2. What is the GLBT (Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender) Kivans & Friends team?

   Lending teams on Kiva allow you to connect with other, like-minded lenders. The GLBT (Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender) Kivans & Friends team allows out and proud Kiva lenders and their friends to publicly support Kiva entrepreneurs.

1. How do I participate in the team?

   First, you need to join the team. Click here to join the team now, if you have not already. 

    

   After you join the team, make some loans. View loans that are currently available for funding and select one or more. If you are logged into your Kiva account, you will be able to have each loan count towards the GLBT (Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender) Kivans & Friends team's totals when viewing the loan in your basket.

   

    

2. I want to fund a GLBT loan on Kiva. Where are they?

   As of 1 November 2009, we have identified one GLBT entrepreneur. This information was not located on the loan description, but the loan description included a link to the business's website and the information was found there. Watch the GLBT Kivans discussion area when loans like these are identified. 

   We do not expect to find a lot of these loans however, as many of the countries that Kiva operates in provides few rights for LGBT individuals, so most individuals in those countries are closeted.

    

3. Do members of the GLBT Kivans and Friends team ever fund a loan as a group?

   Sometimes. An individual team member will sometimes post a loan of interest to the group and other members will join in if the loan interests them.

    

4. I am getting too many emails from the team! How do I change this?

   You can change your email settings on the Kiva website so that you only receive a daily digest of messages or no email notification at all. Look for the section that says "Send me Team Messages".

    

Terms of Use 

There are a few simple rules to remain a member of the GLBT Kivans & Friends team, especially when posting a message to the GLBT Kivans and Friends team:

1. Follow Kiva's Terms of Use. There are several areas in the Aceptable Use section that you need to follow when participating in the team.
   1. Advertising and soliciation are not allowed.
   2. You may not harass, abuse, or harm other members.
2. Do not use profanity.
3. If any of the above rules are broken, the following things may happen as a result:
   1. You will be sent a warning message.
   2. Your post may be deleted.
   3. You may be removed from the team.
   4. Your actions may be reported to Kiva.
